    Screenings, film discussions, workshop

The Black Her*Stories Project presents the first queer Black feminist film festival in Vienna. The selected films depict stories by and about Black LGBTIQ people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer), bringing them to the cinema screen and thus creating decolonial and feminist resistance.

The Black Her*Stories Project utilises the medium of film to highlight and pass on queer Black feminist stories. For three nights the cinema Top Kino stands in the light of Black revolutionary resistance. From feature films to documentaries and experimental movie formats, what connects these powerful, artistic and humoristic narratives is their political relevance. Not only do queer Black feminist positions claim space, but social struggles and movements are made visible.

Following the screenings queer Black feminist experts including US film maker Katina Parker will discuss anti-racist and feminist film critique: How can images in film strengthen Black political consciousness? How can they not only encourage queer Black feminist empowerment but also contribute to decolonial practices?

A two day workshop exclusively for Black LGBTIQ people will address these and many other questions. In the workshop documentary filmmaking will be reflected on and put into action. Furthermore there is an archive planned for queer Black feminist films.

The term "Black Her*Story" challenges the word "history" by unveiling and re-arranging the white cis male oriented understanding of the concept of history ("his-story"). The Black Her*Stories Project stands for Black feminist resistance and is therefore a political strategy.
