FEMME DM-CAT – Breaking Chains, Breathing Beats

FESTIVAL CLOSING EVENT

The interdisciplinary art and education initiative FEMME DM-CAT – Breaking Chains, Breathing Beats uses hip-hop as a tool for empowerment, cultural resistance and artistic liberation. The project specifically targets FLINTA (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) and the creation of safe spaces where they can unfold their stories and creative abilities. It forms platforms for collective learning, creative self-expression and anti-colonial practice.

The focus is on breath – as a symbol of life, freedom and resistance. In workshops, the elements of hip-hop — rap/MCing, DJing, breakdancing and graffiti — are used as transformative tools to shape collective memories and commons. It is a continuous process, an invitation to step in between, rethink and become vocal, in which participants present the knowledge and skills they have acquired as part of the festival's closing event.
