The collections of the Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade include objects and works of art that tell of everyday life in the camps during the Nazi era. It is not only the art catalogue of the museum, which was originally founded as the Museum of the Revolution of Yugoslav Nations (and Ethnic Minorities) in 1959 that has parallels with the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (DÖW) founded in 1963 – the two institutions are also linked by central questions regarding the handling of the collection and its continuation. Reason enough to explore the similarities and differences in the cultures of remembrance as part of and on the initiative of the WIENWOCHE festival.

At the Minute Museum of Resistance, a series of object discussions organized by the DÖW at the Otto-Wagner-Areal in Vienna and also part of WIENWOCHE 2025, experts from both institutions will enter an exchange. Using selected objects from the collections, they will explore similarities and differences in the museums’ work with objects of resistance and persecution – as well as their reception. The thematic arc ranges from collection strategies and their distortions to the political memory of the partisan movement, thinking in (and between) geopolitical blocs and the question of how resistance can be represented in museums today.
