WIENWOCHE
COLONIAL COCKTAIL - SPIRITS distills the last 400 years of European colonial history and packs them into 60 minutes of performance art.
Colonial Cocktail is a boomerang-like motion, a theatrical journey into the colonial past and back to our present, a trace of the origin of today’s alcoholic trend drinks.
How did rum, cola or tonic make their way to Europe? Where did gin get its name from? What stories does Korean soju contain? Why is lemon juice often mixed into drinks? What is political about it? What past and what present are confronting each other here?
In the familiar setting of a bar, we will tell stories that tackle complex colonial historical contexts in our everyday environment. Some bottles will be opened in the process, and enjoyment will become conscious: the most substantial drink? ... is mostly the most violent.
