"Let me be Earthbound; Star fixed"
Ivie Isibor, Binta Giallo, Frida Robles Ponce

To find that space on the earth itself, where the stars are reflected in the pond that we cross. Where we can hear the softness of the wind against the tree branches.
The exhibition “Let me be earthbound; star fixed” by the Viennese collective “fürunsvonuns” is an attempt to approach a more livable future and present. A space to act from careful awareness and alertness with each living being; where ideas like race, origin, gender and stigmas that come with being othered, no longer exist. Where we can think together about a today of love, equality, diversity and playfulness.
The title of this exhibition is borrowed from the poem “I am not seaworthy” written by Toni Morrison in 2002. The intricate beauty of Morrison´s words and her reflection on the intersections between life and death and of our passing through this world inspired the project coordinators and artists.
This space is also an attempt to reflect upon ideas of utopia that have been crafted from a perspective of blackness and political consciousness. Even when utopia may fall into the trap of dogma and of totalitarian thought, somehow we all still dream, imagine and draw it, because it can be a place of growth.
Accompanied by the exhibition we will conduct three sessions of a book club in which “Let me be earthbound; star fixed” will read, discuss and listen together to the words of important thinkers on the possibilities of love, imagination and togetherness.
