It's Getting Cold in Here

Once again we find ourselves in the cold. The old, the new, the neverending. Forced to navigate the escalation of imperial pretensions and their impending nuclear tensions. The world polarizes into friends and enemies, where the allies exclusively become entitled to exploitation. The enemies are safe(?).

Prior to the reconfiguration of supply chains, these had to be fully mapped. Shortages were pointing out the risky (global) resource dependencies and the flawless supply of the powerful had to be restored and legalized. Governmental regulations diversified trusted suppliers, but at whose expense? Whose energy ensures such remodeled security? The (non)citizens cover the ideological separation of the chains of exploitation maintained by and to the disadvantages of the global majority. Without consent, we lose control over the (own) energy. One doesn’t have to do anything in particular to be held accountable. The urgent requirement of positioning is set, while at the same time we are (unwillingly) immersed in the global re-alignments on an everyday basis.

In the time of the renewed extensive pushbacks, the EU states selectively open borders for the (over)qualified batch of essential overseas workers. Fighting for prestige and not by offering adequate social programs. Conditioned participation begins with self-censorship and self-exoticization, where survival implies performing expectations acceptable to the dominant culture. Even though a safer residential status might provide (temporary) comfort, it is a capitalist division mechanism of citizenship-based and nation-state hegemonic narratives.

Why are we still obedient? We are future climate refugees of this planet.

WIENWOCHE supports the challenging action of building a coalition between diverse struggles. We are a platform for transdisciplinary subversive strategies that un(der)_mine the underlying CIStems of oppression. Your festival welcomes unionizing efforts of resisting colonized vital energies, repatriated and non(!) or not-yet productive exhausted bodies and provides formats for caring self-representation and practices of healing. We recognize and respect differences and facilitate environments for the politicization of communities. Common efforts of the festival projects focus on the articulation of political and cultural fringes and renegotiate conditions that affect relations between labor power and more-than-human communities. Our bodies and minds sustain the impact of the burning world. Our hormones are affected by the quality of substances we consume, but we dare to celebrate our uniqueness, and revolt towards imposed normatives. We will not allow the achievements of the migrating communities to be continuously silenced and collect dust in the courts, cellars, or depots of Vienna.

We speak for ourselves and devise programs as communities. Small people are the superpower.

Treated as so-called third-country-nationals, we choose to remain non-aligned.

Let us practice the common legacy of WIENWOCHE.
