EXHIBITION “A PIECE OF OUR LIFE IN EACH YELLOW NUGGET”

A Piece of Our Life in Each Yellow Nugget assembles a constellation of artistic practices that interrogate the material, infrastructural, and epistemic residues of extractivism across diverse geographies of Europe and its entanglements with the Global South. The exhibition situates extractivism not merely as a contemporary environmental and economic concern, but as a long-standing regime of coloniality that continues to structure labor, landscape, and knowledge.

From the quarries of Georgia to the bauxite ponds of Romania, from the colonial plantations of Rijeka to the salt waters of the Mar Menor, the participating artists trace how resource extraction persists as a dispositif of imperial power. These works illuminate how landscapes are subjected to juridical and infrastructural regimes that support depletion; how bodies are instrumentalized within industrial cycles of production; and how histories of forced labor, scientific appropriation, and environmental ruination reverberate into the present.

PANEL DISCUSSION “I WOULD NOT BE YOUR COMRADE IF I DIDN’T TELL YOU THIS” WITH LINA DŽUVEROVIĆ, PETRA MATIĆ AND GORAN MUSIĆ

    Mehr Details

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) emerged in the 1960s and was a major disruptor of the political, economic, and cultural status quo of the mid-20th century. Within it, the newly independent nations from across the Global Majority sought to generate channels and protocols for international collaboration that would bypass centuries-old colonial extractive dynamics. Today the legacy of NAM is present in radical left thinking and documents collected or kept mostly by individuals. What is the status of those counter-archives in the knowledge production on anti-colonial ethics and postulates? If one regards the archive as a form of resistance, the question about ways of sharing and disseminating this knowledge becomes the point in the thread of envisioning forms of solidarity in neo-imperial context.

PANEL DISCUSSION “THE GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF NEO-COLONIALISM” WITH ALEKSANDAR MATKOVIĆ, KRUNOSLAV STOJAKOVIĆ AND MAURICE CARNEY

    Mehr Details

The paradoxical idea of green capitalism (eco capitalism), which suggests that capitalism can be modified to solve the problem of climate change, in practice means the uncontrolled exploitation of resources and the deprioritization of real environmental and climate goals. The resources are found at capitalist peripheries, both European and the Global South, deepening their already developed modes of poverty, inequality and social deprivation. If the Green Deal is understood as green growth while Eu Critical Raw Materials is of global economic importance, it becomes obvious how ecology is connected to economic aspects in capitalism. Since there is no social and democratic dimension while regulations serve only market relations and systems of production, these processes could be explained through using neocolonial terms. If so, the discussion and comparison of historical and contemporary colonies urgently needs to start elaborating the modes of international solidarity and resistance.

FORMS OF RESISTANCE: VLACHIAN UPRISING AND THIRD CINEMA

Forms of Resistance is a live event presented within the exhibition A Piece of Our Life in Each Yellow Nugget, which explores the possibilities of art as a tool for social and political change. Using the collection of film manifestos Film and Struggle as a starting point, a conversation with artist and filmmaker Ujjwal Kanishka Utkarsh will examine how moving images can still act as powerful tools of resistance in the struggle for liberation.

The event will conclude with a performance of traditional Wallachian music, and is dedicated to Europe’s first environmental rebellion — the story of peasants who were forced to abandon farming after their land was poisoned by industrial waste.
