WIENWOCHE
maiz – the Autonomous Centre by and for Migrants celebrates its 30th anniversary and calls for collective responsibility and solidarity. There is a celebration, despite and in resistance to the currently existentially threatening situation of the self-organisation after a considerable cutback, in which a neoliberal performance and funding logic is trying to assert itself.
This project by maiz comprises various formats that provide an insight into the anti-racist and queer-feminist practice/work of the organisation. At the same time, it aims to create a space for dialogue with (self-)organisations, activists* and movements that work with art and culture, as well as with anyone who wants to work for collective transformations. In this way, we want to connect struggles that make life flourish.
Panel discussions, performances, an intervention by maiz-jugend section, as well as the presentation of the special edition of migrazine, the online magazine of maiz, will take place in the setting of an exhibition with archival material and posters.
We cling to stories of a future that we have dreamed of and for which we continue to work. But we still have a long way to go. An anniversary is an occasion for remembrance, but also for making our struggles visible and re-appropriating our imagination. Celebration is resistance!
