PANEL DISCUSSION “ORGANIZE! GRASSROOT UNIONIZING IN VIENNA”
Mehr Details
Representation organized around traditional forms of employment does not correspond to the contemporary forms of contracting. While the struggle for collective rights is still ongoing, working people are forced to become self-employed or work under even more precarious conditions. The grassroot unionizing bridges the established status quo and the real needs of the working people in order to provide a perspective for future structural changes. WIENWOCHE supports unionizing efforts of migrant au- pairs, prisoners and platform workers in Austria and provides a stage for exchange with Viennese and international initiatives.
Keynote:
»Chris Smalls, Amazon Labor Union and T.C.O.E.W., NY Staten Island
Moderators:
»Monika Mokre, political scientist

CANCELLED “LEARNING FROM THE LEGACIES OF FEMINIST ANTI-WAR ACTIVISM AND PERFORMANCE ART IN FORMER-YUGOSLAVIA”
CANCELLED
Mehr Details
In the 1990s, women organized feminist solidarity networks and actions against the war in former-Yugoslavia. Stating “not in our name,” the Women in Black highlighted the relationship between feminism and anti-war protest, employing, among others, tactics of performance art. They placed an emphasis on peace and non-violence when it seemed unimaginable for many. The lessons learned from these experiences and practices provide a wealth of resources for contemporary struggles. Therefore, members of the still active Women in Black will connect with other contemporary queer feminist artist and activist positions for a reflection on wars today.
Participants:
»Nataša Mackuljak, peace worker, artist, WIENWOCHE Executive Director
»Staša Zajović, activist, author, co- founder of Women in Black Belgrade

“WHO ARE WE? IMAGE OF MIGRANT WORKERS - YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW”
Mehr Details
With the elections in the EU and Austrian parliament, migrant workers are a part of the political agenda. Migrant workers, an important pillar for maintaining the economy, working in essential jobs under the worst working conditions are not recognised as part of society by many locals and right-wing politicians. They are the invisible labor force of our society. This transnational and intergenerational panel discussion aims to give migrant workers a platform for exchange in order to understand how they see themselves and their position in Austrian society. 15:00–17:30ANTI-EXTRACTION PEOPLE’S SCHOOL DAY 0: ONLINE PANEL “INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISMS AGAINST EXTRACTIVISM: LABOUR, AMBIVALENCES AND AGGRAVATION”
Mehr Details
This conversation comprises contributions from different areas exploited for coal or mineral mining, mostly in colonial contexts: South Africa; the Swedish part of Sápmi; the Américas; and Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. Building on intersectional feminisms, based on groundbreaking works such as Macarena Gómez-Barris’ Extractive Zone, we revisit different mining areas from the perspectives of women*, Indigenous people and workers, impacted by the appropriation of their lands or their work in the mining sector. We will focus on the situations and agencies of local people and seek (and hopefully provide) some footing amidst literally destabilized grounds of mining, aggravations of capitalist extraction, ecological devastation, and ongoing colonization by resisting extractivisms through our feminist approaches. In relation to artistic practices in various formats, we will tackle violent trans-corporealities, as well as emancipatory agencies.
Participants:
»Bermet Borubaeva, public policy analyst, curator, and co-founder of Bishkek School of Contemporary Art, Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan
»Lis-Mari Gurák Hjortfors, activist and ethnologist, Koskullskulle/Malmberget/ Gällivare in the Swedish part of Sàpmi
